British Airways pilot strike wreaks havoc for thousands of US passengers after 1,600 flights are canceled, including 31 out of US airports in New York, Chicago, LA and Houston

  • British Airways has canceled 1,600 flights on Monday and Tuesday because of the strike
  • Among those flights are 15 due to leave JFK, one from Newark and others from Chicago, Seattle, LAX and Houston
  • The airline’s most lucrative route is its Heathrow to JFK service which earned it $1.15 billion in 2018
  • The dispute is over pilots’ pay; they want a share of the airline’s $2 billion profit from last year
  • The airline has offered them a gradual, three-year pay increase which they rejected
  • Another strike is planned for September 27 if the dispute is not resolved
